Real Estate Photography Pricing Models
Different real estate photographers may use different pricing models. These models can influence the total price you pay, and some might vary based on property size, number of photos, shoot time, editing time, photo use:
- Hourly: Photographers that charge by the time they work are decreasing in popularity. This is primarily because clients like to know the full price of a project prior to hiring somebody. Hiring a photographer that charges hourly can be a strategic move if you plan on hiring for photos over the course of a few weeks. This is because you can be flexible with when the photographer shoots the photos.
- Number of Photos: Charge-per-photo is a very popular method that many photographers use (including us!). Although most photographers have a minimum, they might have packages that include a set of photos for a certain price. Within the real estate photography industry, popular package sizes include the following: 10-25 photos, 25-45 photos, 45-75 photos. Before asking a real estate photographer for a quote, consider how many photos you may need.
- Property Size: Property size is also a significant factor to determine when trying to figure out the cost of real estate photography for your property. Consider that larger properties usually require more photos, more angles, or simply might take longer to shoot. Within our pricing structure, we charge $35 extra for properties over 2400sqft.
- Photo Use: Finally, the use for the photos will determine the cost of the shoot. This concept is often difficult to understand, because it means that 25 photos taken for a “for sale” listing might be hundreds of dollars cheaper than 25 photos taken for a hotel. This is because when you pay for photos, you are paying not for just the labor- but also for the usage rights.

What To Look Out For When Hiring a Real Estate Photographer?
When hiring a real estate photographer, it is important to understand not only their cost but also their services. Consider asking these questions before agreeing to a shoot:
- What will be the final cost? Before agreeing to conduct a shoot, ensure they quote you the final total cost. The worst thing is to be hit with any surprise editing or time charges. Prevent this by asking your photographer to enable a pay-on-delivery method to ensure they do not charge you prior to delivering the photos.
- What will be my deliverables? Ensure you understand the exact deliverables and number of photos they will provide. It can be extremely upsetting to only receive 15 photos when you wanted 45. As a bonus, understand whether your photographer will overshoot- and what their process is for excess photos. Most photographers are willing to deliver a few extra photos for a minimal or no fee.
- What is the turnaround time? The standard turnaround time for real estate photos is 24-48 hours. Any longer than 48 hours is usually too long to wait for real estate images. Note that this figure does not apply to highly specialized edits or videos. Prior to booking a shoot, ensure the turnaround time is within an acceptable range. If it isn’t, consider ordering “rush delivery” so your photos are sent quicker.
